I highly recommend this book about the tavern at the ferry used by Washington in his crossing of the Delaware to attack the Hessians at Trenton. I purchased this book upon the prompting of a gentleman who provided me information I used in my own book about George Washington's Bastille key. The gentleman said he was a descendant of a Revolutionary War hero covered in Tunis' book. Reading this excellent Tunis book (and I have read others), I found the information about the hero ancestor and other relatives, as well as all sorts of other interesting information not found elsewhere: eg, the spy that had helped guide Clinton and Cornwallis to outflank Washington at the Battle of Long Island. Tunis has an obvious talent combining original historical research with explanatory illustrations.Check out one of William J. A wonderful insight to the life of Quakers in the 1600's. I was highly excited to read of Tom Canby being the first man to run a ferry on the Delaware River. This Tom Canby is one of my ancestors and a nephew of mine, David Wilson followed in his steps, just retiring from working as a captain on a ferry out of Seattle, Washington.
great story about henry baker , the reason it made it more interesting he was my GGGGGGG grandfather , I have been tracing his and his relatives all the way to here Australia , the book helped fill a lot of gapes. Wayne baker
